“Eight Glasses Every Day? Water Load of Nonsense!” An amazing piece of article I read just now!
If you have always believed that drinking 8 glasses of water a day is a must, then you have to read the whole article tweeted @MyFastWeightLos.
It is a view shared by Glasgow-based GP Margaret McCartney, who describes the idea that we need eight glasses of water a day as ‘not only nonsense but thoroughly debunked nonsense’.
Furthermore, she says that there is little evidence to support the idea that water before meals will help you lose weight, or indeed that even mild dehydration may contribute to the risk of conditions such as a stroke.
‘My main concern is that the bottled water industry is trying to persuade health professionals to advocate that we should all be drinking more water than we need to,’ she writes. ‘The idea that we all need eight glasses of water a day is ridiculous. The water requirement for each person is different and is different every day.’
She adds that the only groups who do need to be prompted to drink are young children and the elderly.
So, what I have always been thinking and practicing is right too! I don’t always drink 8 glasses of water as I believe that I can also get fluids from fruits and vegetables.
Fruits and vegetables are full of water and even cheese, for instance, is a third water. In fact, tea, coffee, juice or soup do count towards the fluid intake.
